PBS KIDS Redesign

In the dynamic realm of children's education and entertainment, PBS Kids stands as a beacon of quality content that not only entertains but also fosters learning and curiosity. This case study delves into the intricate process of designing for PBS Kids, a platform committed to providing educational and engaging experiences for young minds. The role of graphic design in this context goes beyond mere visual appeal; it becomes a catalyst for sparking creativity, instilling a love for learning, and creating a meaningful connection with the audience.

My Role:

I was tasked with designing engaging graphics and web page mock-ups for children’s shows, creating an aesthetically pleasing visual engagement to enhance user interaction that is child-friendly. My duties also branched to ensuring Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2 compliance in all design work; streamlining web colors, cultivating inclusivity, and creating designs that are accessible for all diverse users.

Here I will be showcasing samples of the work that I created that will be seen on the new PBS KIDS website.

Softwares:

Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Figma, Colour Contrast Checker, Google, and Microsoft Teams.

Graphics:

I was tasked with designing/redesigning graphics for 18 shows and creating visual imagery for squares, thumbnails, freeforms, and movie posters to be featured on the PBS Kids website.
My daily responsibilities encompassed sourcing assets from existing archives, retouching and resizing specific graphics, conducting image research on platforms such as Google and YouTube, and watching films related to certain shows. These activities were integral in gathering the necessary images for the creation of the graphics under my purview.

Assigned Shows:

Alma's Way, Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Elinor Wonders Why!, ODD Squad, Super Why!, Rosie's Rules, Work It Out Wombats, Jelly Ben & Pogo, Dinosaur Train, Let's Go Luna, Sid the Science Kid, Martha Speaks, Oh Noah!, Splash & Bubbles, The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That, SciGirls, Lyla in the Loop, and Rocket Saves the Day.
Here will show case samples of what I worked on in each format. The rest will be found on the new PBS Kids website once launched.

Reflections:

My tenure as a Digital Production Designer (Contract) at PBS was an incredibly rewarding experience. Collaborating with one of the entertainment industry's most esteemed companies provided invaluable insights. The role allowed me to refine my skills in crafting designs tailored to a younger audience, emphasizing simplicity in design. Working for such an esteemed company has been a privilege, and I am genuinely thankful for the opportunity to contribute visually to content that leaves a lasting impact on the next generation.
